A Medical Directive Scenario Role-Play:

This week, our Eagles were busy with challenges like the following:
  • Created their Living Will and End of Life Directive;
  • Discovered how to sit with someone who is preparing to pass;
  • Became educated in Hospice; and
  • Learned about the 5 Stages of Grief

The high moment of the week was when the learners had to take part in a 3-way role play of a Medical Directive scenario in which one eagle was “Child #1;” one eagle was “Child #2;” and one was the “Doctor.” Each “Child” had a different opinion for their parent’s medical directive, and the Doctor was to not offer a medical opinion and had to agree with BOTH children. One group was able to come to a compromise, but the other group couldn’t reach one...which they discovered is more common in life than they realized.
It’s been an emotional, educational week full of serious, mature decisions. Learning these things isn’t fun, but allows these learners to be prepared for what everyone has to experience. This candid approach to something that will, let’s face it, affect us all, is as liberating as it is gut-wrenching.

Way to tackle the hard stuff eagles!!
